A European project
The Septentrion project was borne out of the desire of nineteen fortified towns in three countries in the North East of Europe to share their experience and competences in terms of urban planning and development, the protection and enhancement of their natural and cultural heritage, the awareness and involvement of their inhabitants and the future of their town.
This project of transnational cooperation is financed by the Interreg IIIB North West Europe Programme (€15 million including €8.3 million from ERDF funds), piloted by the Nord Department and led by two associations and a research centre.
Its goal is to develop a living, progressive and transferable model of a sustainable town, based on the enrichment and appropriation by its inhabitants of their monumental, natural and intangible heritage.
